Constitutionally banned since 1992. A bill that will allow civil unions with limited rights for same-sex couples will be discussed soon in the Parliament. A court in 2023 stated that a same-sex couple who married abroad cannot register their marriage.

On 29 November 2023, the first same-sex couple in Nepal was able to register their marriage in the Dordi municipality, five months after the interim order was given. However, there are reports that other homosexual wedding applications have not been consistently registered.

Articles 12, 13 and 14 of the Gender Equity Education Act (2004) include gender identity and sexual orientation among the prohibited grounds of discrimination in education. Taiwan banned workplace discrimination against LGBT citizens in 2007.

Though a new law was passed in June 2023, this law merely "promotes the understanding of SOGI" and only refers to anti-discrimination in principle. It does not specifically ban or illegalize LGBTQ discrimination.
