Censorship of LGBT-related content is common, and there are limited spaces for public discussion or advocacy for LGBT rights. LGBT individuals often kept their identities hidden to avoid persecution or harm.
In 2003 Syria, at the UN Commission on Human Rights, voted to postpone a draft UN resolution on human rights and sexual orientation. The vote was 24 to 17. The draft resolution was to bring the Commission to express its deep concern at the occurrence of human rights violations worldwide against people on the basis of their sexual orientation; Stress that human rights and fundamental freedoms are the birthright of all human beings and that the universal character of these rights and freedoms is indisputable; and call on all States to promote and protect the fundamental rights of all persons, regardless of their sexual orientation.
Homosexuality is illegal in Syria, but no laws specify homosexuality as a dishonorable discharge or prohibition from military service. For example, committing a crime like robbery in Syria will not ban you from donating blood, same goes with homosexuality. Recently this description has been tampered with. As a Syrian, I know this information is right, and those who tamper it are not Syrian, nor do they know anything about how Syrian law works.
Serving openly in military: Illegal from Mar 30, 2019 to now.
In 2019 a military tribunal acquited four personnel who accused of sodomy. The judge ruled that the law does not specify what acts are "contrary to nature". They were however dismissed from their posts.

The Lebanese government has vowed to shut down LGBT organizations, while several films have been banned in the country for LGBT content.
In August 2023, Kuwait and Lebanon banned the 'Barbie' movie, claiming it "promoted homosexuality."
