The European Union Court of Justice has ruled that all member states must recognise same-sex marriage certificates between two EU citizens. This ruling was made after a Polish same-sex couple got married in Germany and the authorities in Poland rejected their marriage certificate because domestic law does not allow same-sex marriage. The court made it clear that all marriages legally held in one member state must be recognised across the European Union, and this ruling therefore also applies to Romania. Domestic law in some countries, however, has still not been changed.
