1916 in LGBT Rights

In 1916, there were 2 recorded legal changes made affecting LGBT people. In the previous year, there were 11 changes made and in the following year. A total of 22 legal changes were made in the 1910s.

    Homosexual activity becomes male illegal, female legal.
    10-14 years in prison. Not enforced. decriminalization proposed by one presidential candidate.
  • Homosexual activity becomes illegal (up to life in prison as punishment).
    Male Homosexuality is punishable by 14 years in prison under the Nigerian Penal Code. Laws is unclear about female Homosexuality in the Nigerian Penal code , in which the southern part of Nigeria rules . However in the Northern Nigeria, where things are ruled by Sharia Law the punishment are different . In some states in Northern Nigeria, consenting and adult Gays and Lesbians could be punished with the death penalty .
