The Health Complaints Bill 2016 bans all conversion therapies and received royal assent on 5 May 2016, coming into force 2 February 2017. The Health Commissioner's office, as created under the original act, received strengthened powers granted on 28 February 2018.
Following a nation-wide postal vote, 61.6% of Australians voted 'Yes' for Same-sex Marriage in November 2017. The Marriage Amendment (Definition and Religious Freedoms) Act 2017 subsequently passed parliament on 7th December and was given Royal Assent on 8th December, coming into effect from 9th December 2017, Australia-wide (including Victoria).
