On 8 September 2016, the Parliament of Aruba voted in favor of an amendment to the Aruban Civil Code legalizing registered partnerships for both same-sex and opposite-sex couples.

- Status is not correct "While marriages are recognized, i.e. they are registered as other marriages, no rights are derived from same sex marriage. In a straight marriage, the spouse gets an automatic residence permit when the applicant is approved. This is not the case with a same sex marriage."
