| Description | On October 13, 2026, more than two-thirds of Hungarian lawmakers voted (139 in favor, 59 against) to repeal major anti-LGBT+ provisions enacted five years prior under Viktor Orbán’s 2021 Child Protection Act. The repeal eliminates most key restrictions, including the ban on depicting homosexuality or transgender topics in content for minors, the mandatory wrapping of LGBT books in foil, and the legal basis used to restrict Pride marches. Under the updated law presented by Prime Minister Péter Magyar, regulations now focus strictly on protecting minors from harmful content regardless of sexual orientation to align with EU law. However, earlier measures remain in force, such as the 2018 decree banning university Gender Studies programs. |
