DescriptionIn Iraq, although this isn't specific to the bathroom but Iraq passed a sweeping amendment to its Law on Combating Prostitution in April 2024 that broadly criminalizes transgender expression, medical transition, and same-sex relations: with it imposes 1 to 3 years in prison for individuals who undergo gender-transition surgeries, receive gender-affirming care, or "intentionally practice effeminacy" (men imitating women) so because transgender expression itself is a punishable federal crime, a transgender person attempting to use a public facility matching their gender identity faces direct risk of arrest, detention, and prosecution under these criminal penalties.
