Entry #21297: Bathroom access in Hungary

Current Version

RegionHungary
IssueBathroom access
StatusPartially restricted
Start DateMay 28, 2020
End Date(none)
DescriptionHungary has no explicit statutory penal laws directly restricting restroom access based on gender identity. However, access is effectively restricted in practice. Following Section 33 of Act XXXIII of 2020, legal gender recognition was banned, forcing official documents to permanently reflect birth sex. Consequently, public facilities, state institutions, and schools often enforce facility access based strictly on official birth sex, creating significant legal ambiguity, harassment, and practical barriers for transgender individuals.
