DescriptionIn May 2026, after a citizen's petition, People's Supreme Court affirmed that it guided local courts to judge cases concerning LGBT discrimination considering the protection of personal dignity. It reported that insults related to sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression are considered illegal by courts, reaffirming that homosexuality is not a disease. Discrimination on labour affairs was also reported to be considered illegal by the judicial branch, with revocation of employer's illegal decisions and compensation for losses. The Court also stated that discrimination on education is prohibited and mentioned a case in which a school in Heifei was condemned to bear 30% of the compensation liability for failing to take appropriate psychological intervention measures for a homosexual student with suicidal tendencies. Finally, the Court related it's holding training programs to judges and reviewing cases to improve protections for LGBT people.
