Issue | Gender-affirming care |
Status | Legal, but restricted for minors |
Start Date | Oct 22, 2018 |
End Date | Jun 24, 2025 |
Description | In 2018, the European Court of Human Rights ruled that requiring those who receive gender-affirming surgeries to provide proof of sterilisation was illegal as it violated the right to a private life. Turkey still requires applicants to be over 18, however. There are documented cases of puberty blockers being prescribed to minors, and no regulations prohibiting the provision of HRT to them. Availability of all gender-affirming care is quite scarce, but has been covered under Turkey's social security since 2014. |
