A service member of the Nigerian Armed Forces convicted Section 81 of the Armed Forces Act of the offence of ‘having carnal knowledge of a person against the order of nature,’ ‘permitting a person to have carnal knowledge of him against the order of nature,’ or ‘committing an act of gross indecency’ may receive imprisonment (up to 7 years) or one or more of the following punishments: dismissal with disgrace or ignominy, dismissal from the Armed Forces, reduction in rank or disrating, forfeiture of seniority, a fine (up to three months’ pay), severe reprimand or reprimand, or forfeiture or stoppages of pay and benefits.
