| Description | According to Chapter 1, Section 2 of the Conscription Act, every male Finnish citizen over the age of 18 is liable for military service. Women are permitted to volunteer for military service according to Section 1 of the Act on Voluntary Military Service for Women. Diagnosed gender dysphoria (ICD-10, F64.0) is not listed as an influencing factor for classification of fitness for military service, according to the health inspection guideline released by the Finnish Defence Forces. Being open about one’s sexual orientation or gender identity as an employed professional soldier is protected by the same employment related anti-discrimination laws. |
