DescriptionThe Khmer Rouge rule over Cambodia from 1975 to 1979 saw widespread state-sanctioned repression of trans people’s expression. Vaguely interpreted morality laws were often used to label trans people as gay regardless of their actual sexuality and they were thus forced by the government to dress according to their assigned sex at birth. Trans women also faced forced haircuts.
