Also in a (heterosexual) marriage of a doctor and someone else, the someone else gets some benefits if the doctor dies first. This is not the case in a civil union. [From here on I am not sure] Also if an immigrant marries a german civilist they don't have to stay in asylum [not sure if this is the correct word. the german word is "Asyl" (refuge for immigrants?)] instead they can stay with their SO. In a gay civil union the immigrant has to stay in the asylum."
